ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE

The Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) is awarded upon completion of a prescribed
program of study designed to prepare students to enter and compete in the job market.
Eighteen credit hours must be earned in residency at Collin College. AAS curricula enable
the graduate to enter an occupation with marketable skills, an acceptable level of technical
competency, and the ability to communicate effectively. In addition, an AAS degree helps
prepare students for life-long learning.

AAS Degree Plan Requirements

AAS degrees require 60 credit hours with at least half of the coursework in a common
technical specialty area of the degree.  All AAS degrees require a minimum of 15 credit
hours of general education.

GENERAL EDUCATION COMPONENT

The 15 credit hours of general education coursework must be distributed as follows:

  • At least three semester credit hours from humanities/fine arts;
  • At least three semester credit hours from social/ behavioral sciences; and,
  • At least three semester credit hours from natural sciences /mathematics.

Faculty select the general education courses in each workforce degree to complement
the technical courses in the area of study.  Some AAS degree plans allow students to
choose from a selection of specified courses to meet their general educations requirements.

See the specific degree plan for general education requirements.  If options are listed in
the degree plan, refer to the table of AAS General Education Courses at the end of the
program description section to view the available course choices.
