Course Description

A Medical Secretary works in physician offices, general medical and surgical hospitals, offices of dentists and other health practitioners, outpatient care centers, clinics, and urgent care facilities. Medical secretaries perform secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties may include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. Employment in this field is expected to grow faster than average, with projected job openings nation-wide of 278,400. Median income for medical secretaries in Texas in 2013 was $13.91 per hour.  

 Courses may be taken in any order.

Upon completion of all courses in the series, students are eligible for the Administrative Health Assistant certification through the National Healthcareer Association.

Healthcare courses must receive a passing grade on all quizzes/tests as well as 90% attendance for each course - no exceptions.

For non-medical courses, you must be present 90% of each class meeting to fulfill the attendance requirements - no exceptions.
