Course Descriptions - Poetry I and II
Poetry Writing I - How do we define elements of good writing in poems and then apply the identified elements to our own writing? Learn the strategies of writing poetry, to dicussions about writing, and to the process of creative writing. We will use writing exercises and critique sessions to strengthen and develop understanding in using these elements.
Poetry Writing II - Reading and analysis for poets from Walt Whitman, Timothy Seibles, Marvin Bell, to Ann Carson. We will investigate developing our own voices based on those poet’s style.
Course Objectives
Poetry Writing I and II

In these classes you will recognize and discuss the essential elements of poetry, employ the writing strategies of published writers in their original works, apply critical skills to evaluate and revise one's own work and compose a manuscript and identify several journals appropriate to send their work.
