Lynetta Haynes-Oliver

Just the idea of sharing information, my experiences and training with students that are anticipating learning something new for them is exciting, and gives me inspiration to continue to teach

Lynetta Haynes-Oliver takes this adage to heart: “Those who teach, learn twice.”

Haynes-Oliver has taught for more than 30 years at the college level in California and now at Collin College in the Continuing Education department. She currently teaches PowerPoint, Excel I, Computer Keyboarding, Microsoft Office Systems, Introduction to Computers, Windows XP, Internet, and all the applications in the Microsoft Office Suite.

In the classroom, Haynes-Oliver brings her knowledge and experience in the business world to instruct, inspire and evoke a real-world aspect to learning the different computer applications.

“Just the idea of sharing information, my experiences and training with students that are anticipating learning something new for them is exciting, and gives me inspiration to continue to teach,” Haynes-Oliver said. “I have found new energy for the classroom with students of all abilities, ethnicities, age levels, and experiences. The students inspire me because of their questions, their responses, their openness, and their enthusiasm for knowledge.”

The element of Continuing education and lifelong learning is a two-way street in Haynes-Oliver’s class. These elements are important, according to the instructor.

“(Continuing education) means that as long as one has the desire to learn, it is available at the level you need for as long as you want to learn,” Haynes-Oliver said. “It means that there are others with whom you can communicate, exchange ideas, share information in a comfortable environment and move to higher levels at your own pace.”
