At Collin College, the art of dance is used as a vehicle for the development of self-discipline, the recognition of diversity, the pursuit of excellence, and the expansion of aesthetics.
Collin College's Dance Department has earned a strong reputation for excellence in dance education, choreography and performance, and has served as the foundation for propelling students into prestigious university dance programs.
The dance curriculum includes multiple levels of:
• dance appreciation
• hip hop
• modern dance
• performance classes
• Pilates / Anatomy for dancers
• Special topics: such as Latin Ballroom, Ballet Variations
and Pointe for Beginners
Class instruction focuses on movement fundamentals, technique, performance and choreography. The dance curriculum provides a comprehensive approach to learning dance by integrating the aesthetics, historical, critical, cultural and fundamental aspects of dance as an art form.
The Dance Program offers numerous guest artists master classes, special workshops and free dance seminars. Previous guest artists include Battleworks Dance Company, Cheryl Chaddick Dance Theatre, Elledanceworks Dance Company, Janice Garrett and Dancers, jhon r. stronks, Pilobolus Too, and Houston Metropolitan Dance Company.
Collin's dance faculty work to create an educational environment where students' success is the priority. Dancers training at Collin College have successfully transferred into prestigious dance programs such as Columbia College Chicago, The Ohio State University, The University of Oklahoma, Point Park University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas at Dallas, The University of Texas at Arlington, Texas State University, Texas Woman's University, Sam Houston State University, The University of North Texas, and The University of Central Oklahoma.
