Computer Networking

The door is wide open for you to become tech savvy. If you have an interest in becoming one who is "in the know" with designing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the networks that make up the Internet, Collin has programs to put you on the road – or to give you a leap ahead in your networking career.

Our Mission

The mission of the Computer Networking team at Collin College is to equip our students with real-world employability skills. In the the process of attaining skills for the IT industry certifications, our students develop teamwork, communication, and analytical thinking skills and become highly marketable for a successful career in IT.

Our Computer Networking Programs

Collin's Engineering and Computer Systems Department offers four tracks in Computer Networking:

In all three tracks, you begin with building a solid foundation in understanding of how networks work, and the foundational courses prepare you for numerous professional certifications including CompTIA Network+ and Cisco's Certified Entry-Level Technician (CCENT). Then you select which networking focus suits you best.

Collin College's student presentation at 2022 HI-TEC

Amy Tong

We are proud of Collin College Cybersecurity student Amy Tong who presented at the 2022 HI-TEC conference (High Impact Technology Exchange Conference).  HI-TEC is supported by the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education program and is a national conference on advanced technological education where secondary and postsecondary educators, counselors, industry professionals, trade organizations, and technicians can update their knowledge and skills. Amy was unique among the poster presentations this year in that she was a student among seasoned educators and vendors in the room.  She represented Collin College admirably with her poster on a CISCO OSPF Scaling Network that provided configuration guidance for a Multi-area OSPFv2 for IPv4 and a Single-are OSPFv3 for IPv6.  Amy also gained valuable insight during this four-day conference by attending sessions focused on teaching new emerging technologies to college educators.

 

Collin College is the home to the National Science Foundation’s Convergence Technology Center and has supported student trips to HI-TEC for many years.
