Christopher R. Morgan is an instructor at Collin College where he teaches courses in composition, music theory, electro-acoustic music and directs the New Music Ensemble.  Since 2007 he has served as chair of the Department of Music.  He received his Ph.D. in composition from the University of North Texas (1998) where his dissertation included designing, programming and composing for an eight-channel sound spatialization system.

Chris primarily composes electro-acoustic pieces for solo multi-channel playback, interactive works with video and instrumentalists as well as interactive installations.  He presents his compositions and papers both nationally and internationally while featuring his interactive installations in the north Texas region.

Past installations include Alloys and Echoes for metal sculptures “played” by interactive electronics in 2005 as well as Resonant Earth, ceramic sculptures played by interactive electronics for Earth Day 2007.  In 2009 Chris recreated two long string instruments and combined them with computer programming allowing viewers touching the strings to create unique musical drones that filled the gallery space.  This installation was presented at Collin College and at the Haley-Henman Gallery in Dallas.

Most recently, Chris re-installed his installation Ubuntu in Motion: a twelve- by twenty-four-foot interactive dance floor with video projection originally commissioned for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Black History Month celebrations at Collin College in 2006, at the Allen Public Library in 2007 and now most recently at SPARK in Dallas.  For more information about these and other upcoming performances, please visit his faculty website: http://iws.collin.edu/cmorgan.
