What is Supply Chain Management?

A rapidly growing $1.3 trillion industry

Supply chain managers are instrumental to the efficient working of the new economy. They are responsible for a global network of purchasing, transportation and warehouses delivering products and services for many companies. Specifically, supply chain managers design, plan, execute, control and supervise activities with the goal of creating value, building a competitive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronizing supply with demand and measuring performance globally. 

Who Hires Supply Chain Managers?

Companies who employ supply chain managers include: retailers, manufacturers, service providers, shipping companies, distribution companies, consulting rms and state and local agencies.

More than 6 million people are employed in supply chain management, and the field is anticipated to grow by 1.4 million jobs by 2018. - Fortune Magazine

The Supply Chain Management program offered by Collin College will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain competency in the management of supply chain activities, including logistics, purchasing, inventory and warehouse management. The program prepares students for employment in a variety of roles in the rapidly growing supply chain management eld which currently employs more than 6 million people and is anticipated to grow by 1.4 million jobs over the coming years. The Dallas-Fort Worth region is a national leader in supply chain services with 500 motor carriers, 50 air cargo carriers, three top freight rail lines, three major airports and 250 area firms.

The Collin College Supply Chain Management program includes the opportunity to receive an Associate of Applied Science in Supply Chain Management, as well the opportunity to obtain a Certificates of Completion, in Purchasing Management, as well as in Logistics Management.
