Leave Benefits
Collin College full-time employees have the following types of leave benefits available to them:

Paid Leave



Effective September 1, 2013, sick leave and vacation will accrue on the last day of each month, rather than on the 15th of each month.  This minor accrual date change will help streamline procedures and reduce manual calculations.  The amount of sick and vacation time employees receive each year will remain unchanged.  

Sick Leave
All benefits-eligible staff, faculty and administrators earn sick leave at a rate of 8 hours per month.  Sick leave accrued on the last day of the month may be used as soon as the first day of the following month.   

Benefits-eligible staff and administrators receive their full annual vacation credit at the beginning of each fiscal year, or the prorated vacation credit upon hire.  The amount of vacation employees receive is based on length of service.  Credit vacation may be used before it is earned, with the exception of FMLA leaves.  However, if benefits-eligible employment ends and an employee has used more vacation than he or she has earned, any used unearned vacation will be deducted from the final paycheck.

Leave Without Pay
The College does not offer Leave Without Pay (LWOP) as an optional form of time off.  Time off is meant to be granted and taken within the existing leave types and policies.  Requests in excess of available leave should be denied by supervisors. 

In the event of extraordinary circumstances, requests for Leave Without Pay (LWOP) may be recommended by the appropriate Leadership Team Member in advance by submitting the request to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development.  The Associate Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development is responsible for: a) submitting the request for final approval; b) if approved, processing the request; and c) notifying the Leadership Team Member of the final status of the request.

If a request for Leave Without Pay (LWOP) is recommended by the appropriate Leadership Team Member and approved by Human Resources, the employee must receive a written Coaching.  If a request for Leave Without Pay is not approved, the employee will receive appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination of their employment with the College.
