Rocky Gribble is the president of Yellow Rose Productions and has produced the internationally known Grapevine Opry since 1987. His abilities on electric lead guitar, acoustic rhythm guitar, nylon string classical guitar, five string banjo and mandolin keep him busy contributing to the music of countless singers, songwriters, local, regional and national commercial jingles, ad campaigns and trade shows. He has played for countless musical artists including Englebert Humperdink, LeAnn Rimes, B.J. Thomas, Ronnie Milsap, Linda Davis, the Judds, Gary Morris, Carol Channing, Wanda Jackson and Hank Thompson.

He is the recipient of a Best Actor in a Dramatic Series LEO award for his work in Francis Ford Coppola’s series First Wave.

Dr. Lynn Rothschild is an evolutionary biologist-astrobiologist at NASA’s Ames Research Center and a professor at Stanford and Brown University, where she teaches astrobiology and space exploration. Dr. Rothschild has lectured at the Vatican and Windsor Castle, Mystic Seaport and the Royal Society of London. She appears frequently on radio and television programs, including the BBC, NPR, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, ABC World News Tonight, and the History Channel.  Like Charles Darwin, Rothschild is a fellow of the Linnean Society of London and also a fellow of the California Academy of Sciences and the Explorers Club.

Book-in-Common author Julie Otsuka discusses her work of fiction, When the Emperor was Divine, which centers on the trials of a Japanese family during World War II. Mirroring the experiences of some of Otsuka’s family, the story begins just as the family is forced out of their homes and onto a train, which takes them to an internment camp in Nevada. Having lived through this experience, Otsuka’s characters are then forced to deal with the alienation of going back to their homes and re-acclimating into “ordinary,” post-war life.
