Five CCCCD Art Students Receive Scholarships
Five Collin County Community College District students received visual arts scholarships
Oct. 5 during a reception in the Spring Creek Gallery. The recipients were:
Esther Friedman of Dallas, the Billie Elliott Memorial Painting Scholarship, awarded in honor of the late gallery director. Friedman’s work on display was a nude oil on canvas titled "Cherished Secrets."
Vicki Hoffman of Richardson, advanced 3D student, the Lyle N. and Charles C. Doane Memorial Scholarship. Her work was a steel sculpture entitled "Harmony3."
Jinyoung Park of Plano, advanced 2D student, the Richard Griggin Memorial Scholarship. Her work was an oil jungle scene on canvas entitled "Energies."
Vladimir Sokolov of Plano, 2D student, CCCCD Foundation, Inc., Art Department Scholarship. His work was a black and white charcoal sketch entitled "Male Portrait."
Patricia Wolanski of Plano, 3D student, CCCCD Foundation, Inc., Art Department Scholarship. Her work was a wire sculpture entitled "Koi."
"Each of these students showed a strong personal direction and focus," said Lee Akins, professor of art, representing the art faculty, which selected the scholarship winners.
Collin College serves more than 46,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
