Collin County Community College Provost Belinda Newman Named to "21 for the 21st Century" List

APRIL 25, 2001 - Dr. Belinda Newman, Collin County Community College District (CCCCD) provost, has been selected as one of the "21 for the 21st Century" by Inside Collin County Business. In its fifth year, the annual list salutes 21 of the top business leaders whose community service has made a significant impact on Collin County. The 2001 winners will appear in the May edition of the business publication, and their stories and portraits will be exhibited throughout the county for the next year.

Newman has been active primarily in the McKinney area where she oversees CCCCD's Central Park Campus. She currently is a member of the McKinney Habitat for Humanity and McKinney Alliance. She is also a facilitator of Citizenship McKinney, chair of the legislative committee for the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the MBA program advisory committee at LaTourneau University. She has also been active with the McKinney Rotary Club and was on the executive committee for the Heard Natural Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary.

Among Newman's awards and honors are an appointment to the Executive Leadership Institute of the League for Innovation in the Community College. She is a graduate of the 1997 Leadership Texas class and 1995 graduate of Leadership McKinney. She is also a recipient of the Darrell Truitt Research Award.

Newman holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration, master of education and bachelor of science degrees from Texas A&M University. She has been with Collin County Community College District since 1992.
