CCCCD Offers Weight Training & Conditioning For The 50+ Group

Plano, TX - Collin County Community College District is once again offering an exercise class for seniors in the fall. "Over 50 Years Old Weight Training and Conditioning Class," will be at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Room A103. Classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday, beginning August 27, from 1:00 - 1:50 p.m.

Taught by Dr. Linda Adams, CCCCD wellness coordinator, this class offers strength training that will enhance the quality of life for seniors. "Strength training is important to older adults for a variety of reasons. Loss of muscle mass begins after age 50 and is accompanied by decreased muscle density and increased intramuscular fat," Dr. Adams explained.

"To remain functionally independent and stave off age-related diseases, older adults may use a strength-training program to increase both muscle size and strength. They may also improve their ability to stand erect and avoid falls," Dr. Adams adds.
