CCCCD Printmaking Portfolio Class Holds Exhibit

October 3, 2001-Eleven Collin County Community College District students in professor Ann Meyer's printmaking portfolio class will be exhibiting their artwork through Nov. 3 at the Turley Gallery in Dallas. The exhibit entitled "Impressed with Words" is free and open to the public. A reception with the artists will be held October 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the Turley gallery.

The artists exhibiting pieces in the show include Martha Rea Baker, Laurie Paris-Garver, Vicki Midyett, Barbara Nehman, Molly Pederson, Wanda Lou Raymond, Gloria Ross, Donna Shuford, Ralph D. White, Doris Luise Yanger, and Delores Zweigoron.

According to Meyer, the portfolio class was instituted so people could stay and do in-depth work, and some of her students have been taking this class for 13 years. The class is also unique because the students range in age from their 20's-80's and with weekly interaction offers a supportive environment.

"The students have been bringing in poems or creating their own poetry and responding to these written pieces by making an etching or a print. They decided to have a show dealing with their reactions to another medium; interaction with the written word. If the words are not an integral part of the image, then the piece that they will respond to is on the wall next to it," said Meyer.

The Turley Gallery is located in the Turley Law Center Building, at 6440 N. Central Expressway, University Drive exit, E of N Central Expwy. Valet Parking is available. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
