CCCCD Presents Area's First Education Summit

NOV. 12, 2001 - College presidents, public school superintendents, school board members, school advisors and policy makers will meet to discuss educational issues during the area's first Education Summit. The Summit will be held from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 at Collin County Community College District's (CCCCD) Spring Creek Campus in Plano.

Among the presenters are education policy expert Gordon "Spud" Van de Water, program director, Education Commission of the States; Don Brown, Texas commissioner of Higher Education; David Anderson, managing director, Texas Education Agency; Franklin Jenifer, president of the University of Texas at Dallas; Cary A. Israel, president of CCCCD; Jenny Preston, superintendent of Allen ISD; and Rick Reedy, superintendent of Frisco ISD.

Among the discussion topics is the P-16 issue. P-16, according to the event's organizers, is an attempt to create "a more integrated, seamless education system" by taking steps to infuse the three levels of public education-preschool, K-12 and post-secondary-with "greater coherence and connectedness."
