CCCCD Art Gallery Exhibit Merges Sound, Sculpture And Light

NOV. 13, 2001-Collin County Community College District (CCCCD) will exhibit "Space Diffusion," a collaborative installation of sound, sculpture and light sources designed to bring all the senses alive Nov. 15-21 in THE ARTS gallery in room A175 at the college's Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy, in Plano.

Free and open to the public, the exhibit features a computer-based light/sound experience composed by the artists, which diffuses sound and light throughout the gallery space. This dynamic, continuously running installation features the work of Christopher Morgan, CCCCD professor of music and Rex Reece, CCCCD professor of art. Morgan will present a behind the scenes overview at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 in THE ARTS gallery.

Reece and Morgan have talked for years about creating this collaborative artwork, and while Reece refers to his work as visual music he wanted to add sound to the installation.

"I build sculpture light modules which I call 'Random Time Modulators.' This show will be like an "electronic Stonehenge," a circle of changing light and sounds. Since the timing is random, every visit to the show will be different," said Reece.

"It is an interactive installation. There will be a microphone, and you can bring an instrument or sing. The music you produce will be diffused around you in the room," said Morgan.

THE ARTS gallery hours are 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 9 a.m. -5 p.m. on Friday. For specific information about this exhibit, e-mail Cmorgan@ccccd.edu. For more information about THE ARTS gallery, call 972.881.5873 or Vicki Mayhan, director of galleries, at 972.881.5145.
