CCCCD Students Win Gingerbread House Contest

DEC. 21, 2001-Collin County Community College District culinary arts students won the first-place and the third-place trophy in the amateur division of the Texas Chefs Association's Gingerbread Competition. Proceeds from the auctioned gingerbread creations will be donated to the Shared Housing Center, a Dallas-based organization that provides and facilitates affordable housing options, and the Texas Chefs Relief Fund, which provides funds for members in need.

CCCCD students Jessica Miller (Allen), Gesina Cuvi (Plano) and Eric Mann (Murphy) worked together to create the completely edible culinary masterpieces. The winning gingerbread houses were created at CCCCD@ALLEN in Allen High School's kitchen, designed specifically for the college's culinary arts program. Professional chefs with diverse culinary backgrounds and skills teach the hands-on culinary arts classes at the college.

According to Karen Musa, CCCCD hotel/restaurant and culinary arts coordinator, the students put in hundreds of hours to create their culinary masterpieces. "Each year it is getting a bit more sophisticated. I really think that one day they will compete on the professional level. They won because their houses were vibrant and met the criteria of the judging," said Musa.
