CCCCD Board Memeber Carey Cox Appointed To ACCT

JAN. 29, 2002 - Collin County Community College District (CCCCD) board member Carey Cox recently was appointed to a second term of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). The ACCT is a nonprofit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States, Canada, and England. ACCT is a chief lobbying body for all federal programs that impacts community colleges, primarily in the areas of funding and grants.

Cox, a founding member of the CCCCD Board of Trustees and former chairman of the board (1985 - June 2000), will serve a one-year term on the Public Policy committee of ACCT.

Cox said he hopes to have an impact on the level of federal funding appropriated to community colleges due to the fact that a majority of students attend community colleges. "I'd like to assist my fellow committee members in seeing that community colleges receive their fair share of higher education funding," said Cox. "We now receive about 40 percent of all federal funding and four-year colleges receive 60 percent. However, community colleges have nearly 70 percent of the students enrolled in higher education."

Carey Cox, a resident of McKinney, was named Outstanding McKinney Citizen of the Year in 2001.
