CCCCD Professor Gives Keynote Address To Local PTA

MARCH 13 , 2002-The combined council of the Allen and Lovejoy ISDs' Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will be hosting its annual lifetime membership reception on April 8, from 7 - 9:00 p.m. in the Allen High School cafeteria, 300 River Crest Blvd. in Allen. The reception is open to all district residents and tickets may be purchased in advance for $12.00 per person. The theme of this year's reception is "PTA: Celebrating Children, Community and Country." Professor R. Scott Yarbrough from the Collin County Community College District will give the evening's keynote address.

Lifetime membership is one of the highest honors that can be given to a participant in the Allen and Lovejoy Council of PTAs. Recipients of lifetime memberships are recognized for their commitment to education, service to the community and dedication to children. The evening will include a light southwestern buffet, and entertainment will be provided by violinists from Ford and Curtis middle schools.

R. Scott Yarbrough, the guest speaker, is currently a professor of English at CCCCD. He is winner of the statewide 2001 Minnie Stevens Piper Award for teaching excellence in higher education.

Coming from a family that has dedicated itself to public education (his parents have amassed over 72 years in the field), this multitalented professor is also an artist, musician, poet, and playwright.

Yarbrough holds a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Angelo State University. Prior to joining CCCCD in 1998, Mr. Yarbrough was a professor of English at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, where he was awarded the district-wide 1997 Excellence in Teaching Award.

CCCCD maintains and operates space at the main high school in Allen. Called CCCCD@ALLEN, this location includes the Teacher Certification Program, preparing tomorrow's teachers in many areas of secondary education, and the award-winning Culinary Arts program, which offers local residents with specialized training in one of the world's fastest-growing service industries.
