Music Students Receive Scholarships

MARCH 26, 2002-Twelve students in the music department at CCCCD have received scholarships from the Division of Fine Arts. Among the 12 winners are singers, guitarists and pianists, a cross sampling of all the musical specialties taught at the college's Spring Creek campus in Plano.

The spring 2002 recipients are singers Sara Cave of Garland, Patrick Grouss of Plano, Rachel Ray of Plano, Rebecca Collis of Allen, Elicia Garcia of Richardson and Jill Vuckovich of Plano; guitarists Claudio Ceballos of Plano and David Conger of Richardson; and pianists Melody DeLuca of Richardson, Emily Foster of Prosper, Eymard Furtado of Plano and Mariko Nakazawa of Dallas.

"These are the best of the best," said Michael Crawford, dean of the Division of Fine Arts. "These scholarships are based on talent and potential."

Music faculty selects winners based on academic coursework, involvement in the department, and on performance ability. Auditions are held twice yearly, the next being the afternoon of May 10 for the upcoming fall semester. Awards are available both to incoming students and current students.

"I'm honored to receive this scholarship," said Rachel Ray. "It not only helps me out financially, but it also helps me to receive a good education and to study with an amazing music department."

Interested applicants can contact the music program coordinator, Dr. Brian Allison, for more information at ballison@ccccd.edu, or visit the music department's website at http://www.ccccd.edu/music.
