National Amateur Radio Field Day At CCCCD

JUNE 14 , 2002 - If a disaster occurred, members of the Collin County Community College District amateur radio station, K5CCC, would be ready in minutes to serve as emergency service providers.

Members of the CCCCD station, who hold Federal Communications Commission ham radio licenses, will practice their emergency skills as they participate in National Amateur Radio Field Day held June 22-23.

Broadcasting from between Founder's Hall and Heritage Hall by the flagpoles at CCCCD's Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco, operators will set up radio equipment in a tent and communicate on generator-powered radios. The station will be on the air for 24 hours, from noon Saturday to noon Sunday, and operators will contact as many other participating stations as possible during that time.

This year, the public is invited to use the ham radios and speak to radio operators from across the country at the "Get on the Air" station that will be supervised by licensed radio operators.

The free event will feature radio equipment displays, national radio transmissions and a visit from the City of Frisco Fire Department.
