CCCCD Business Office Receives Top Honor

SEPTEMBER 3, 2002 - For the fifth consecutive year, the business office of Collin County Community College District has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.

This award was given to the business office for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). According to the GFOA award, this certificate represents "the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting."

The award recognizes the college for meeting high standards and demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure." Another goal of the CAFR is "to clearly communicate [the] financial story" of the institution. The CCCCD accounting department has received this honor each year that it has published a comprehensive annual financial report.

The GFOA, with offices in Chicago and Washington, is a nonprofit professional association that serves approximately 14,000 government finance professionals.

Linda Vaughan, director of accounting and financial reporting at CCCCD, says that the award is "a credit to all the employees in the Business Office who prepared it and to the President and Board for their support and guidance."

Vaughan has been CCCCD's director of accounting and financial reporting since January 2002. In the 14 years prior to that, she worked for the city of Allen, first as an accountant, then as chief accountant, and finally as its finance director. Under her direction, the city of Allen also received GFOA Certificates of Achievement from 1998-2001. Vaughan received her BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University in 1984.
