The Arts Gallery Presents "Grain Of Thought: A Survey of Works By Don Schol"

September 27 , 2002 - Collin County Community College District's THE ARTS gallery will feature Grain of Thought: A Survey of Works by Don Schol, Thursday, Oct. 17 - Saturday, Nov. 16 in the THE ARTS gallery at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Artist receptions will be at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22.

An associate dean of the School of Visual Art at UNT, Schol exhibits together for the first time all thirteen sculptures in his continuing self portrait series. Created over a period of nine years, these beautiful pieces, hand carved in Honduran mahogany, are personal reflections by the artist on his life and beliefs. Through these sculptures, Schol addresses such topics as his views on the environment, his love of knowledge and his experiences as a seminary student, Vietnam soldier, and artist.

An additional focus of the exhibit will be Schol's artistic process and use of traditional hand carving methods through displays of his tools, sketches and a video interview of the artist.

Gallery hours are Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. For more information visit the gallery web site at www.ccccd.edu/THEARTSgallery, or call THE ARTS gallery at 972.881.5873.
