James Named Associate Dean

SEPTEMBER 27, 2002 - Washington James, professor of computer science, has been named the new associate dean of evenings and weekends. He will have administrative responsibility for all evening and weekend programs throughout the entire district.

"We're adding this position basically because of the rapid growth in enrollment," said Rex Parcells, provost of Spring Creek. "For the last year and a half, we have been rotating administrators so that we would always have coverage here at night. As a district, we're at a point now where we need someone here on evenings and weekends permanently."

James will serve as the key administrator for evening and weekend programs, assist in the on-site supervision of faculty and staff, work with other administrators to schedule a comprehensive offering of classes, develop a pool of associate faculty, and assist in the evaluation of instructors.

"I look forward to the many challenges of this new position," said James. "It excites me to think of the contributions I can make to the quality of education being provided here at CCCCD."

"[His] is a vital new position," said Parcells, "since roughly 40 percent of our students are now evening and weekend students. It is an important position, and we're looking forward to having Washington James on board."

James has been an instructor of computer science at CCCCD since 1989. He is working towards a Ph.D. in educational administration from Texas A&M - Commerce, to add to his MBA in management information systems from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and his B.S. in Computer Science from Park University in Missouri. He served as the coordinator of computer science from 1995 - 1997, during which time he created class schedules, recruited associate faculty, and maintained course outlines and syllabi.
