CCCCD Hosts Speaker On International Relations

SEPTEMBER 27, 2002 - Collin County Community College District's (CCCCD) Honors Institute Faculty-Student Forum welcomes Dr. Marie Chevrier as guest lecturer at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2 in room F108 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The event is free and open to the public.

Her presentation, "Weapons of Mass Destruction and International Relations: What Have We Learned?" will address the serious issue of international security and conflict. She is a recognized authority on the science and politics of international weapons policy. Dr. Chevrier holds a doctorate in public policy from Harvard University and a fellowship at the Center for Science and International Affairs, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. She is a member of the American Federation of Scientists and is a renowned advocate of weapons control through diplomacy and negotiations.

"Dr. Chevrier's study connects science, technology, security, policy, and international affairs. She is a leading expert in international negotiations. Educators, as well as policymakers, need to learn how conflicts may be averted or resolved through negotiation," stated Dr. Kay Mizell, professor of English and director of the Honors Institute.

Dr. Chevrier has authored more than two dozen articles or book chapters on war and peacemaking and on threats to U.S. national interests and international security. She is at the forefront in analyzing these problems and identifying opportunities for effective intervention into the policy process. She is currently an associate professor of political economy and director of the Master's in Public Affairs Program at the University of Texas at Dallas.
