CCCCD Board Member Receives Millennium Award

OCTOBER 2002 - The Allen Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) recently presented Dr. E.T. Boon, CCCCD board member, with the fourth annual “Millennium Award.” The award is presented to three businesses and one individual recognizing their commitment and outstanding efforts to further the development of Allen.

According to Allen Mayor Steve Terrell, Dr. Boon was selected for the honor because he has been a “key architect” for the city.

Dr. Boon has been a board member and leader for the AEDC since 1992 when it was founded and has been a top advocate and leader in Allen since 1967. He was the city’s first full-time dentist and served on the school board for 13 years, including seven years as president. He also has been active in the Allen Jaycees and Allen Rotary.

“To me this award represents 14 years of work with the Allen Economic Development Corporation toward the development of industry and improvement of the city,” Dr. Boon said. “When I began working in economic development in Allen, the goal was to recruit three new industries. I believe we brought in approximately 30 new industries.”

Allen has undergone phenomenal growth since Dr. Boon first became involved in the community. He said when he was first elected to the school board there were few industries, the school district was poor, and very few students attended college. “Now, all of our schools are highly rated. Also, most of our students attend college and are well prepared. Education is fundamental to the success of this country,” he said.

Dr. Boon is a 12-year veteran of the CCCCD board of trustees.
