CCCCD Welcomes Convergence Lab Director

November 5, 2002 - The Collin County Community College District's Engineering Technology Department announces the arrival of its new Convergence Lab Director. Ernest Jackson joins CCCCD as the director of the newly created Convergence Lab that is designed to promote convergence technology - the combining of voice networks, data networks and video into a single flexible network.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work in the relatively new convergence technology. I believe that convergence technology, particularly Voice over IP on an ATM platform is going to give the old voice networks a run for their money," said Jackson.

Jackson's experience includes optical network architecture, technical/customer support, product verification and sales engineering. Most recently, he worked for Sigma Networks designing and implementing optical networks throughout the U.S. Prior to that, he spent several years with Nortel Networks as a senior engineer.

"The addition of Ernest to our staff gives us the necessary support to move forward, rapidly infusing convergence lab experiences into our courses and making the lab available to area businesses," said Ann Beheler, executive director and dean of engineering technology.

Jackson's technical training includes S/DMS TransportNode OC12 OAM&P, S/DMS TransportNode OC48 OAM&P, S/DMS TransportNode OC48 Linear, S/DMS TransportNode OC192 BLSR, S/DMS TransportNode OC3, S/DMS TransportNode OC12 BLSR, S/DMS AccessNode, SONET, MeridieanSL-100, Protel-DMS and Jetstream DSLAM.

He holds an associate's degree in science from Grayson County College and is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the University of North Texas. He is also an amateur HAM radio operator.

Collin County Community College District serves more than 37,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the CCCCD is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
