CCCCD Design Students Visit Design District

November 5, 2002 - Twenty-five of Collin County Community College District's interior design students participated in the Trammell Crowe Design Center's Celebration of Design 2002 Student Day, an invitation-only event.

The students attended seminars conducted by members of the American Society of Interior Designers on industry topics such as showroom etiquette and areas of interior design specialization as diverse as healthcare facilities to historic restoration. They were also allowed to see how portfolios are reviewed and were able to meet industry professionals. Students said they enjoyed the experience and came away with valuable information.

"The day was amazing! I learned a lot of things, especially about the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners. I also realized how important it was to know about fabrics and materials," said student Martha Sangiuliano.

Other students found the personal connection with professional designers to be most valuable.

"This was an awesome experience and I am glad I didn't miss it. It was interesting to listen to other designers talk about their triumph over tragedy. The tragedy being finding work during economic lows," stated Lindsay Eltis.

The purpose of Student Day was summed up best by Melinda Hampton, "I found the afternoon panel discussion to be very interesting. The information about the many different areas of design that are open to future interior designers was very exciting. I would recommend that any student planning to be an interior designer attend the next student day - not only for the information but also for the opportunity to make important connections in the design industry. It's never too early to work on the 'who you know' aspect of a career opportunity."
