CCCCD Is Selected A Regional Cisco Academy For Security And Wireless

May 30, 2003 - Collin County Community College District has been chosen as the first and currently the only Regional Cisco Academy for Security and Wireless in the state of Texas. The Academy will provide instructor training for Texas instructors in the Fundamentals of Network Security and the Fundamentals of Wireless LANs.

"Being awarded the Regional Security and Wireless Academy for Cisco complements our current emphasis on student and educator training in high-end computer networking and security," explained Ann Beheler, executive director and dean of Engineering Technology. "Through this academy, CCCCD will address the demand for security and wireless knowledge and credentials for faculty from the entire state while also focusing on the needs of the students and businesses in our region."

The Fundamentals of Network Security program appeals to professionals who want a globally recognized certification and skill set, employers needing to validate employee credentials and those interested in industry-wide security technologies, threats, weaknesses and solutions.

Through the web-based online curriculum, students will learn the overall security process with emphasis on skills in security policy design and management, security technologies, products and solutions, firewall and secure router design, installation, configuration and maintenance, AAA implementation using routers and firewalls and VPN implementation using routers and firewalls. Hands-on labs and E Labs are also part of the program.

The Fundamentals of Wireless LANs program is ideal for high school, community college, military and university students interested in the Cisco Networking Academy Program. It is also ideal for workers in transition. Students must have completed CCNA semester 2 or hold a current CCNA certification.

Through the Fundamentals of Wireless LANs curriculum, students will learn the design, planning, implementation, operation and troubleshooting of wireless LANs. The course covers a comprehensive overview of technologies, security and design best practices with special emphasis on hands-on skills in the areas of wireless LAN setup and troubleshooting, 802.11a and 802.11b technologies, products and solutions, site surveys, resilient WLAN design, installation and configuration, WLAN security - 802.1x, EAP, LEAP, WEP, SSID and vendor interoperability strategies. Hands-on labs are also part of this program.
