Videos Win Awards

August 1, 2003 - CCCCD's media services department won two separate awards for outstanding educational television productions created over the past year. Its internal video "Outstanding Faculty Members of 2003" was given an Award of Distinction from the 2003 Videographer Awards competition, and its "Civic Engagement Video" won first place in the 2003 Aegis Awards.

"Winning these awards is very exciting," said Vernon Hadnot, television programming and production associate at CCCCD. "It's a great honor to be able to represent the college nationally. I would like to thank President Cary A. Israel, and the board members for giving me the opportunity to do my best work."

The Videographer Awards is an international competition judged by industry professionals to honor talented individuals in the video production field. Entrants include independent producers, advertising and P.R. firms, corporate communications, cable and broadcast operations, government agencies, schools, and special event producers. This year's competition received more than 2,371 entries from the United States and abroad. This puts CCCCD's media services department in the same league as Florida State, Miami and Syracuse Universities, and many other previous winners (videoawards.com).

The Aegis Awards is a peer-review competition currently in its 10th year. The Aegis Awards has nine categories of competition, including promotional, educational and commercial venues. Previous winners have include Kaiser Permanente, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, NASA Television, Oracle Corporation, San Diego State University, University of Miami, and WGBH in Boston. Judging is based on a complex formula that grades the various elements of the production (shooting, editing, music, etc.) and then composites a score based on an average of all the judges' opinions (aegisawards.com).
