CCCCD Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Sept. 5, 2003 - Collin County Community College District is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with two special events Monday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 Spring Creek Pkwy. in Plano.

Fiesta Day kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month Monday, Sept. 15 with activities beginning at 11 a.m. and running through 6:30 p.m. Tables will be set up in the Atrium displaying information about LULAC, ESL classes and interesting items from our international students. CCCCD will celebrate with a pot-luck lunch of traditional Hispanic foods and the day will close with poetry readings.

Another special date to mark on your calendar is Saturday, Oct. 4. CCCCD will host its annual Back to College Fair in conjunction with Día de la Comunidad (Community Day) from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The computer lab will have information and access to Hispanic websites, there will be tables on campus with information on financial aid, ESL, admissions, health issues and Hispanic-owned businesses. There will also be a book drive and piñata-breaking contest. The CCCCD Guitar Ensemble will perform music from Spain and Central and South America beginning at 11:30 a.m.

This special fair will also offer helpful information for all adults who want to make a life change but are not sure where to start or which direction to take. Whether you are a single mom or struggling family, CCCCD offers the education you need to get a better job. You can also learn about community resources and support and attend free seminars. Children are welcome to come play games and enjoy snacks.

Collin County Community College District serves more than 38,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the CCCCD is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
