Peter Jennings To Moderate Town Hall Meeting At CCCCD

October 31, 2003 - On Nov. 20, Collin County Community College District will host a special town hall meeting featuring internationally renowned journalist Peter Jennings. Made possible by ABC and WFAA Channel 8, the production is scheduled to air on Sunday, Nov. 23.

Jennings will moderate a dialog on "Media and the College Student" between CCCCD students and a panel of local journalists. Organizers expect the discussion to explore the relationship between the press and American students in higher education, as students pose questions to the panelists.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for our students. They are very excited to have the chance to interact with journalists of this caliber. We are very thankful to ABC officials for placing a priority on higher education," said CCCCD Board of Trustees chairman Sam Roach.

"Hosting Mr. Jennings is a great honor for our college," said college trustee Cindy Bauge. "It gives the board a great deal of pride to see the spotlight shine on our wonderful student body and award-winning college."

According to college president Cary Israel, the visit by Jennings blends perfectly with the college's "service learning" program. "Service is a core value of our college, and we have many initiatives in place to demonstrate the value of becoming civically engaged. Watching the news or reading the newspaper is a basic component of being informed about the events that affect our lives. Through this town hall, our students will see evidence that their opinions do matter."

The event will take place in the theater at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Admission is by invitation only.
