CCCCD Offers Solaris Classes

November 24, 2003 - This spring, Collin County Community College District is offering two new classes that prepare students for Sun Certified System Administration certification exams, CX-310-014 and -015. These classes offer students the necessary knowledge and skills to perform essential system administrator tasks in the new Solaris 9 OS. The first core course in this series of classes, "Solaris 9 Operating Environment SCSA, Part 1," will be held from 6 - 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 20, 2004. The class will take place at CCCCD's Courtyard Center for Professional and Economic Development, 4800 Preston Park Blvd., in Plano.

Classes will take place in the new Sun lab with Blade 150 workstations running the new Solaris OS. This introductory course will teach students how to install software, manage file systems, perform system-boots, perform user and security tasks, manage network printers and perform backups and restores. Knowledge of Unix is helpful.

"We are looking forward to providing affordable education to a sector of area businesses that normally have to go greater distances to find Unix and Solaris systems training," said Natalie Greenwell, program director. "CCCCD continually strives to offer our students real-world training using experienced, certified instructors from the very businesses using these technologies. Adding a new Sun lab this year is just another way we are meeting the needs of our students."

Collin County Community College District serves close to 40,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the CCCCD is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
