CCCCD Receives $100,000 Workforce Grant

January 9, 2004 - Collin County Community College has received a $100,000 grant from the North Central Texas Workforce (NCTW) development board to train more than 200 employees from local government entities. The five-month training program will begin in January and will focus on computer applications and leadership development.

CCCCD will train government employees of Collin County, the cities of Plano and Frisco, the Frisco, Allen and McKinney Chambers of Commerce, the Frisco and Plano Economic Development Corporations as well as the employees of LifePath Systems, a provider of mental health services in Collin County.

"This new grant-funded partnership initiative will help prepare our cities, county, economic corporations, and chambers for the growth we will continue to see in Collin County," said Cary Israel, president of CCCCD. "The College will be providing computer training as well as leadership training for the dedicated civil servants in our county. We are pleased the North Central Workforce Board has recognized and funded this project."

The NCTW Development Board serves 14 counties, including Collin. In partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, the board delivers workforce solutions to more than 7 percent of the population of the state of Texas and administers more than $40 million in employment and training funds.

"Just as it is important for businesses to stay abreast of changes in technology, it is equally important for our city and county offices to have the skills needed to address the demands of carrying out local government business," said Steve Hardy, executive director Continuing Education and Workforce Development. "Training is an important tool for gaining efficiencies in daily operations of any organization. This grant will provide some of the training that has been requested over the last year."

CCCCD serves nearly 40,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines. In addition, CCCCD is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and workforce development.
