CCCCD Dental Hygiene Students Participate In Give Kids A Smile Day 2004

January 30, 2004 - Collin County Community College District's (CCCCD) dental hygiene students will team up with local dentists and dental hygienists to treat more than 100 disadvantaged kids pre-selected from a pool of underserved children in the community. Dental services will be provided to these children free of charge Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Central Park Campus, 2200 W. University Drive in McKinney.

The dentists, with the assistance of CCCCD dental hygiene faculty, graduates and students will provide dental screenings in order to set up appointments the following Saturday, Feb. 7. School nurses from Allen, Frisco and McKinney ISDs have chosen these kids based on their financial and dental needs to receive dental care, cleanings, sealants and x-rays.

"The dental hygiene program at CCCCD is delighted to be part of this outstanding event to serve our community. Our students are taught the importance of service as an integral part of their lives. They are very excited to be part of this event," said Joanne C. Fletcher, director of the dental hygiene program. "It is a wonderful experience for them to be part of a team of professional volunteers willing to share their time and expertise for the good of community children."

Give Kids A Smile Day is an annual, national event and held locally this year under the leadership of Dr. John Wise and the Fourth District Dental Society of the Texas Dental Association. For more information, please call Joanne Fletcher at 972.548.6537.
