AACC President George R. Boggs To Visit CCCCD March 12

Presentation to focus on the future of community colleges nationally, locally

March 5, 2004 - American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) President and CEO Dr. George R. Boggs will speak on a variety of "hot" topics affecting community colleges. Hear "The Future of Community Colleges: National and Local Perspectives" from 1 - 3 p.m. on Friday, March 12 at Collin County Community College's (CCCCD) Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Dr. Boggs' presentation will address issues such as nursing/allied health strategies; finance, funding and student aid; President Bush's "Jobs for the 21st Century" initiative; and challenging social and demographic trends.

Dr. Boggs has served on the Boards of Directors of the California Association of Community Colleges, the Community College League of California, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the American Association of Community Colleges, serving as board chair 1993-94. From its Washington, D.C. headquarters, AACC represents more than 1,1000 associate degree-granting institutions and some 11 million students.

Dr. Boggs' visit is sponsored by the Bill J. Priest Center for Community College Education at the University of North Texas at Denton through a gift from the ARCO Foundation to the UNT College of Education. The presentation is part of the inaugural Priest Center 2003-2004 lecture series, "Standing at the Crossroads: Addressing Diversity in Students, Faculty and Leaders of the Twenty-First Century Community Colleges."
