CCCCD Receives $140,000 Workforce Grant

March 12, 2004 - Collin County Community College has received a $140,000 grant from the North Central Texas Workforce (NCTW) development board to train 192 employees of AMX Corporation in Richardson, a company that designs and sells network control systems. The four-month training program began in March and provides computer applications, leadership development and project management skills to AMX's employees.

"We're honored to be a recipient of another workforce grant, and to have the opportunity to continue working with the Business Solutions Group at CCCCD," said Jamie Hardeman, internal training manager for AMX University, AMX's training department. "We plan to use the grant dollars to offer our employees training in management/leadership, foreign language skills, convergent technologies, computer applications, programming and project management. It is our belief that through the professional development of employees, our company will continue to grow, achieve our goals and recognize each person's role in driving business results."

The NCTW Development Board serves 14 counties, including Collin. In partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, the board delivers workforce solutions to more than seven percent of the population of the state of Texas and administers more than $40 million in employment and training funds.

"This partnership is an excellent example of how the private and public sectors can work together to benefit Texas workers," said Steve Hardy, executive director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at CCCCD. "In a global marketplace, the training the college provides makes a difference for the companies we serve."

AMX Corporation is a worldwide leader in advanced control system technology, targeting commercial and residential markets.

Collin County Community College District serves close to 40,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the CCCCD is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and workforce development.
