CCCCD Department Of History Sponsors Cotton And Rural History Symposium

April 16 2004 - Collin County Community College District's Department of History in the Social Sciences Division is co-sponsoring the 8th Annual Cotton and Rural History Symposium to be held from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, April 24, at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum, 600 Interstate 30 in Greenville. The event is also sponsored by Texas A&M - Commerce's Archives and Oral History Program. The luncheon speaker will be Dan K. Utley from the Texas Historical Commission's History Programs Division. Utley has published many books including From Can See to Can't: Texas Cotton Farmers on the Southern Prairies. Registration is $10 (includes lunch).

Founded in 1997, the Cotton and Rural History Symposium hosts presenters working in the fields of social, agricultural and rural history, and folklore and the oral narrative. Previous presenters include former presidents of the Texas State Historical Association and a number of award-winning academic historians and writers.
