CCCCD Celebrates Jazz At Summer Camp

June 16, 2004 - The Collin County Community College District's (CCCCD) music division will hold the tenth annual Texas All-Star Jazz Camp daily from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., July 18-23 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.

This year's camp is excited to welcome critically acclaimed jazz vocalist Kevin Mahogany and former Count Basie lead Trumpet, Byron Stripling.

Anyone 13 or older with one year of experience on their instrument is eligible. Experience with jazz music is not required. Students will receive instruction on theory, improvisation, arranging and instrumental master classes and will participate in groups and sectionals. There is also a jazz vocal track for students interested in learning to perform solo with a big band.

The Texas All-Star Jazz Camp Faculty Band will perform nightly at 8 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre at the Spring Creek Campus. The opening night concert, Sunday July 18, featuring Kevin Mahogany will be $10. The remaining evening concerts are free and open to the public.
