COORDINATING BOARD DESIGNATES TWO CCCCD PROGRAMS AS
'EXEMPLARY'

Sept.10, 2004--Following a review this spring, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) designated the nursing and real estate programs at Collin County Community College District (CCCCD) as "exemplary." The THECB congratulated the college on the quality of its programs.

CCCCD's associate degree nursing program in McKinney was recognized as "exemplary" by THECB for years 2004-2007. The ranking was based upon placement of program graduates, professional credentials, business-industry partnerships, integrating academic and technical education, employer/student satisfaction, and on-going need for the program.

Over the past 14 years, the CCCCD nursing program graduated 424 total students with an average pass-rate on the NCLEX-RN licensure examination of 96.87%. The program is growing rapidly and will begin admitting students twice a year beginning this spring.

"Receiving this recognition is an honor and validates the quality of the program," said Dr. Nell Ard, director of the nursing program. "The nursing faculty have contributed greatly to maintaining the quality over its rich history and will continue this into the program's bright future."

The real estate program was also designated as "exemplary" during the 2000 THECB review. The real estate program, located at CCCCD's campuses in Plano and McKinney, offers pre-licensure, salesperson's annual education, appraisal and both appraisal and real estate continuing education courses. The program offers two certificate programs and one degree program.

Mary Milford, department chair, received the news. "Real estate is a dynamic field and our program is providing highly qualified professionals that are sought after by local companies," said Milford.

Collin College serves more than 46,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
