October 1, 2004--Writing the great American novel, or movie?

This fall, Collin County Community College is offering creative writing classes at CCCCD's Courtyard Center for Professional and Economic Development, 4800 Preston Park Boulevard, in southwest Plano. New classes begin every two weeks. Check out the continuing education schedule online at for class dates and times.

Creative writing classes include: "Basics of Writing a Novel," "Blueprinting Your Novel," "Creative Scriptwriting," "Public Relations Writing," "So You Want to be a Writer," "The Craft of Songwriting," "Travel Writing," "Writing to Inspire," "Writing with Humor" and "You Can Write for Magazines." "How to Write a Romance Novel" will be added in spring 2005.

All creative writing instructors are professionals in their fields. Patricia Burroughs, who teaches "Basics" and "Blueprinting," recently won one of the five open spots in the prestigious Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. Billye Johnson, who teaches "So You Want to be a Writer," "Travel Writing," "Writing to Inspire" and "Writing with Humor," is a founding member of the Greater Dallas Writers Association and recipient of the Polly Bond Award for Excellence. Leann Harris, who will teach "How to Write a Romance Novel," has published several romantic suspense novels.

“It is rewarding to work with our talented and published writers. And equally exciting when one of our students completes their own novel or screenplay and submits it for publication or production,” said Carol Luckock, program director.
