Optician Training Begins Jan. 24 at CCCCD

OPTICIAN TRAINING BEGINS JAN. 24 AT CCCCD

January 6, 2005 - Students with the vision of becoming an optician can prepare for the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) National Exam with the help of the Collin County Community College District (CCCCD) Continuing Education.

Optician Training is available during the Spring 2005 semester Monday and Wednesday nights from 7-9 p.m. starting January 24 and ending May 11 at the Courtyard Center, 4800 E. Preston Park Blvd. in Plano. Cost for the course is $1,895.

Careers as an optician include employment by private ophthalmologists, optometrist and optical stores and corporate opticals such as Pearl Vision, Lenscrafters, Sears and Target optical stores.

The course includes 60 classroom and 20 clinical hours, and instruction encompasses optician skills such as anatomy and physiology of the eye, basic optics, lens form analysis, lens materials coatings, multifocal designs, ophthalmic frames, and instrumentation and regulation standards. Students also will be able to get hands-on experience at offsite facilities.

After students complete the course and pass the ABO exam, they can receive their National Certification.
