Collin Takes Trip Around the world


March 17, 2005 -- Collin County Community College District (Collin) will show off its international flair with a day of events Thursday, March 31.

International Day will feature a wide variety of activities, which showcase the college’s melting pot of students and faculty. All events will be at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Events are free and open to the public.

The Collin Jazz Band will kick things off at 11:45 a.m. with a number of songs. The Parade of Nations and Lion Dance – led by Chinese dancers and drummers - will take place at 12:15 p.m. Children from the Collin Child Development Lab School will present “This World is My World,” and Collin guitar students will be on hand performing pieces from different countries.

At 1 p.m., a fashion show with international flavor starts as garments and style from around the world are shown off.

Other events include a talent show, a fortune teller who reads one’s coffee sediment and an international trivia contest. Cultural tables and displays from different countries will be available in the Spring Creek Campus atrium from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. International culinary samples also will be available.

International Day is sponsored by the Collin International and Middle Eastern student associations, the International Student Office, Student Life and the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee.
