Collin SBDC Named Area Small Business Center of the Year

April 13, 2005 –  The Collin County Community College District (Collin) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) recently learned that it will receive a great honor.

The U.S. Small Business Administration Dallas/Fort Worth Regional office will award the Collin SBDC with the SBDC of the Year Award Wednesday, May 11, at a 2005 Salute to Small Business Awards luncheon at the Wyndham Arlington Hotel. Collin SBDC competed against 17 other SBDCs in the 49-county area.

The SBDC of the Year award criteria include counseling and training objectives, client satisfaction, quality of counseling and training, economic impact, certification of personnel and participation in network’s program development activities.

“As the SBDC of the Year, Collin had to exceed milestones, be knowledgeable with new technology, demonstrate good counseling and training, have to develop leadership programs and participate in various committees,” Liz Klimback, the SBDC regional/state director, said.  “Mark (Langford, Collin SBDC director) and his staff met and exceeded those goals.”

The Collin SBDC assists small business owners and potential business owners in a number of areas including marketing, technology, licenses and permits and government regulations and taxes. The SBDC also helps new businesses find start-up capital, develop business plans and research the feasibility of business ideas.

Collin College serves more than 46,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
