Auteur Film Series Heats Up 2005-06 With Two September Movies
September 1, 2005 – The 2005-06 Collin County Community College District (Collin) Auteur Film Series is sure to whet the movie-lover’s appetite.
The series, co-sponsored by the Center for Scholarly and Civic Engagement’s Education Through Film program, will focus on the taste buds as the theme is “Food For Thought.”
The first film will be “Super Size Me,” an amusing and eye-opening documentary logging director Morgan Spurlock’s goal of eating fast food for 30 straight days and seeing how it affects him physically and mentally. The screening is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Angelika Film Center, The Shops at Legacy, 7205 Bishop Road in Plano. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
The series continues at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, where “Like Water For Chocolate” will be shown. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The conference center is located at 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
“Like Water For Chocolate” chronicles Tita’s culinary pursuits as she is forced to care for her aging mother and not allowed to marry her love, Pedro. Pedro ends up marrying Tita’s sister to stay close by. As a release, Tita puts her passions into her cooking.
Both screenings are free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
Following the movies, a number of Collin faculty and staff will facilitate a discussion reviewing the film, its themes, characters and other pertinent points.
At 6 p.m. before “Super Size Me,” Collin music professor Casey McClure will present a score to a film short inside the Angelika theater with a reception sponsored by Collin’s fine arts division.
