Collin Continuing Education Wins Awards
Sept. 23, 2005 -- Collin County Community College District (Collin) continues to add to its growing list of regional and national awards.
Collin won several awards from the National Council for Continuing Education and Training (NCCET), an organization that provides leadership in the areas of continuing education, workforce development and distance learning.
Steve Hardy, associate vice president of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, won the 2005 Leadership Award for the South Central region of NCCET.
Regional Leadership Awards are given to those who have had significant impacts on CE and workforce development programs over sustained periods of time.
Hardy has served as executive director/dean of Collin’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development division since 1991. During his tenure, he established the Business Solutions Group to provide workforce training to local businesses. He also established the Center for Workforce and Economic Development to seek grant funds from local, state and federal sources. His multi-pronged strategy has served the community well.
“It is an honor for the college and for me to be recognized by such a prestigious organization,” said Hardy. “Through the support of a visionary board of trustees and an entrepreneurial president, CEWD has been empowered to serve our businesses, community, and students.”
Collin also won two national Exemplary Program Awards from NCCET. Exemplary Program Awards recognize techniques or products that improve the success of CE or workforce development classes. Entries are judged based on their impact, sustainability, creativity and marketability. Collin took top honors in two of four categories available. According to NCCET, the categories were highly competitive.
The Business Solutions Group won for its “Balanced Scorecard Approach to Service Evaluation.” Continuing Education won for its “SchedWare Database for Planning, Managing and Marketing Continuing Education Classes.”
All awards will be presented next month during the NCCET Annual Conference in Jacksonville, Fla.
