Collin Fall Jazz Concert Slated for Dec. 10
November 30, 2005 -- The Fall Jazz Concert, “Collin Jazz Rocks” is scheduled for 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at the John Anthony Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano.
The concert will feature the Jazz Lab Band, Jaztet One, Jazz Combo Too and Combo PM.
The Jazz Lab Band recently performed at the Burlington/Discover Jazz Festival in Vermont and will play several well-known jazz numbers and new pieces. Marie Hart, vocalist, will sing “That’s All,” an arrangement originally recorded by Diane Schurr and “I Didn’t Know About You,” a selection from Duke Ellington’s library.
The group also will perform “R U Chicken?” by Collin music professor Kris Berg and bassist Young Heo will be featured in a performance of Thad Jones’ “This Bass Was Made For Walking.” Heo recently was chosen to perform with the International Association for Jazz Education’s Community College All-Star Jazz Band in New York City in January.
The jazz combo groups will feature smaller ensembles and a wide variety of songs. Jaztet One will play pieces from Michael Brecker and Pat Metheny and the Jazz Combo Too will feature standards like “Night and Day” and “Orange Colored Sky.”
