Texas Outback Cover - June Redford Van Cleef's book, "The Texas Outback: Ranching on the Last Frontier," shares the name of her newest exhibition at Collin County Community College District's THE ARTS gallery in February.
June Redford Van Cleef taught at the college for 17 years and some of her work will return Wednesday, Feb. 1-Friday, Feb. 10. The show is titled "The Texas Outback: Ranching on the Last Frontier." A reception is set for Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.
The photographs are from Van Cleef's book of the same name. The work captures Van Cleef's West Texas roots and the mix of Anglo and Hispanic cultures.
Van Cleef lived in West Texas in 1995 and 2001 taking photos and documenting the ranchers and people involved in the ranching business - from the cooks to the children. Van Cleef was raised on a 96,000-acre ranch in Kent, Texas. She has been documenting Texas' rural culture since 1978.
"The work is about a way of life definitely on the wane," Van Cleef said of the exhibition. "It is about capturing the exciting way of life I lived growing up - my Texas rural roots".
June Redford Van Cleef's photography captures the dying breed of West Texas ranchers in her new gallery, "The Texas Outback: Ranching on the Last Frontier."
The exhibition totals 41 environmental portraits, landscape shots and interior photographs.
