Collin Announces Spring Class of Collin-SMU Pre-Admission Students

Feb. 28, 2006 -- Collin County Community College District (Collin) is proud to announce the spring class of Collin-SMU pre-admission students. Roughly 20 Collin students per year are accepted into this exclusive program, about 10 per semester.

The Collin-SMU pre-admission program allows Collin students to work with SMU advisors to ensure successful transfers into the students' selected majors. Collin students selected for the program receive tickets to SMU sporting events, lecture series, and access to the university's library, for example, while still attending classes at Collin.

The spring class includes: Meredith Faramchi, law/business (Plano); Nour Abusaad, computer science, business (Plano); James Marks, business/finance (Plano); Nicole Malaj, business (Plano); Ziara Osbourne, business/management (Plano).

Students interested in participating must have maintained a 2.95 grade point average in transferable hours with less than 30 hours. Students with more than 30 hours must maintain a 2.7 grade point average in transferable hours. No more than 62 hours should be transferred to SMU.

The deadline to apply for the Collin-SMU pre-admission program for the fall semester is Aug. 1, 2006.

Applications are available at http://transferu.collin.edu/smu.html or at the academic advising or admissions and records offices at the Central Park, Preston Ridge and Spring Creek campuses.

In addition to the application, students must submit transcripts, a two-part personal essay and a professor's letter of recommendation.

A committee comprised of Collin and SMU staff will select which students are accepted into the program and those students will be notified by mid-August.
