Collin Theatre Receives Awards

March 31, 2006 -- Quad C Theatre at Collin County Community College District (Collin) has won 20 COLUMN Theatre Awards, a peer-reviewed, annual awards ceremony representing the best theatre in the DFW metroplex. The 20 awards were the most won by any theatre company this year. THE COLUMN Theatre Awards are separated into four distinct categories: plays (equity and non-equity), and musicals (equity and non-equity). Quad C Theatre took top honors in two categories.

Thirteen of the awards, including best musical (non-equity), went to Quad C Theatre's production of “Bat Boy,” a musical spoof/romance based on stories like those told in tabloid magazines. Including best musical, “Bat Boy” also won in the categories of:

Best Actor for Jimmy Hays Nelson (Rockwall) as Edgar The Bat Boy; Best Actress for Sara Shelby-Martin (Rowlett) as Meredith Parker; Best Supporting Actor for Doug Fowler (Denton) as Mrs. Taylor, etc.; Best Featured Actor for Brian Woods (Garland) as Bud/Daisy/Pan; Best Featured Actress for Hollye Gilbert (Aledo) as Young Meredith; Best Director for Brad Baker (Plano); Best Choreographer for Emily Lockhart (Dallas), Brad Baker (Plano) and Thomas Renner (Lantana); Best Stage Manager for Andrew Serna (Plano); Best Lighting Design for Craig Erickson (Plano); Best Sound Design for Andrew Duckworth (Frisco); Best Scenic Design for Craig Erickson (Plano); Best Costume Design for Sandra Snyder (Plano) and Andrea Throop (McKinney).

“We are overwhelmed at the support we received for our work,” said Brad Baker, chair of the Collin theatre department. “It is an honor to be recognized by the D/FW theatre community.”

BEST FEATURED ACTRESS IN A PLAY
“Alien Voices” - Kim Whalen (Garland) as Moon Ant Queen

BEST STAGE MANAGER OF A PLAY
“Season's Greetings” - Brittany Noll (Mesquite)

BEST LIGHTING DESIGN OF A PLAY
“The Exonerated” - Michelle Burdeaux (Irving)
